Barbara was the fourth of six children born to John and Florence (Smith) Sabine. She was raised in the Wollaston section of Quincy, MA. She graduated from North Quincy High School in 1949 and the Chandler School for Women, Executive Secretarial Course, in 1950.

Barbara married Paul Vincent Walter on September 8, 1951. Together they had two sons, Daniel T. Walter and James S. Walter and in 1957 moved to Squantum. The family was active at First Church of Squantum. Paul passed on January 9, 1969. She continued to enjoy their home overlooking Dorchester Bay until her retirement.

Barbara is survived by her two sons, Dan and Jim Walter, her daughter in law Debbe Walter, her grandchild Catherine Walter (Rosie Aurora), her sister Sandra Swain, and sister-in-law Marilyn Walter, as well as many well loved nieces and nephews. Barbara is predeceased by her brothers Donald (Doris) and Paul (Mimi) Sabine, her sisters Ruth (Bill) Albin and Cheryl Sabine, and her brother-in-laws George Swain, Theodore Walter and Franklin Walter.

While raising her children Barbara worked as a church secretary and at Squantum School as a teacher aid. Following that she worked at several offices as a secretary. She retired in 1997 and moved to Merrimack, NH. Barbara had always been active in her local churches and quickly joined St James UMC where she took part in the church choir, served on committees, as well as helping at the Food Pantry and the Hub. She loved the Merrimack Public Library and took part in many of their programs including book discussions, cribbage, and the knitting group.
