Obituary

Barry Fredrickson, 83, of Merrimack, NH and a former resident of Waltham, MA passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, after a long illness surrounded by loved ones.

Barry was born in Boston, MA on August 10, 1940, the son of the late Paul "Buddy" E. and Catherine Rita (McDaniel) Fredrickson. Barry served in the US Army from 1959-1962 where he was a communication specialist focusing on morse code. A skill he never lost.

He grew up in Charlestown before moving to Waltham in the late 60's. He and his wife of 52 years, Linda D. (Wharton) Fredrickson, lived in the same house for 46 years. Barry worked at Polaroid where he was a chemical supervisor before retiring in the mid 90's. He returned to school at UMass Lowell where he received a Paralegal Certificate. He worked in Boston as a paralegal for just under 10 years before retiring for good.

Growing as a true city boy his family was a little shocked when he decided to build a house. He didn't have any clue where to start so he attended Wentworth Institute of Technology to learn the basics of home building. Many summers and weekends were spent building a cottage in the Sanbornton, NH area.

Barry loved his family, friends, and the vast array of four-legged family members of the course of his lifetime. He enjoyed babysitting his grandkids, watching baseball, football, and NCIS. He was an avid crossword puzzle lover, liked playing solitaire both card and digital, enjoyed reading and telling the vast stories of his life to anyone who would listen and that was everyone. He made friends wherever he would go because of his stories, quick wit, and genuine caring personality.

In addition to his wife, Barry is survived by his children, Barry "Chipper" Fredrickson, Jr of AR, Jill Critchfield and her husband David of NC, Adam Fredrickson and his wife Rebecca of Merrimack, NH and Jodi Fredrickson-Niemi and her husband Raymond of Waltham, MA, his brother Paul Fredrickson of TX and sister, Jayne Thorton and her husband Ronnie of Revere, MA, his brother-in-law Gary Wharton and his wife Peggy of Cumberland, RI, sister-in-law, Ellen Davis and her husband Cal of Foxboro, MA, and brother-in-law, David Wharton of North Brookfield, MA as well as 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Pamela Velasquez.

There will be no calling hours. A private Celebration of Life will be held later.
