Carol
Young
April 25, 1953 – April 8, 2024
Carol A. Young, 80, currently of Ledgewood Bay in Milford, NH and a former longtime resident of Port Orchard, WA, died Monday April 8, 2024, after a sudden illness.
She was born in Hanover, NH on April 25, 1943, a daughter of the late Frank L. and Marguerite M. (Hazen) Napolitano and grew up in White River Junction, VT. Following graduation, she lived several years in a suburb of Burlington before moving with her young family west, first to Oakland, CA and finally settling in Port Orchard, WA.
It was in Washington she decided to pursue a career in education, obtaining a B.A. degree from Central Washington University and then becoming a primary teacher in the South Kitsap School District. After several years of teaching, she and her husband Don opened The Learning Tree, a retail store specializing in children's merchandise with an educational focus. Together they owned and operated the business for nearly two decades. She later worked part time as a sales associate in a store that sold art and crafts supplies.
Outside of the workplace she enriched the lives of others in many significant ways as both an active participant in her community and as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She and Don regularly attended First Christian Church and through this relationship engaged in associated activities such as bible study groups. Her unrelenting passion for crafts kept her busy creating treasures for family and friends, particularly personalized custom cards, taking advantage of her interests in stamping and scrapbooking. As members of their local Volkssport association she and Don were able to combine their love for outdoor activities and birdwatching. Later, they would take daily drives locally along the shores of Puget Sound in pursuit of similar interests.
In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her husband Donald D. Young who died in April of 2023.
Members of her surviving family include a son, Henry Fisk and his wife Linda of Davis, CA; a daughter, Heather Roberts of Merrimack, NH; six grandchildren, Logan, Ian, Ryan, and Madison Roberts, and Braden and Garrett Fisk; a brother, F. Louis Napolitano and his wife Joyce and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
