Charles A. Piper, Sr., aka "Chuck", a longtime resident of Chelmsford peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024, surrounded by family.  He was the beloved husband of Jean L. (Saultes) to whom he was married for 68 years.  He was born on March 17,1934, in Bath, ME, the son of the late Linwood A. and Elsie (Savage) Piper.  He was predeceased by his sisters Eileen and Beverly.

At the age of just 19, Chuck served in the US Air Force from 1953 to 1957 for the Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron.  He was a graduate of Bentley College, MA with a degree in Business and Finance.  He had a long and rewarding career beginning with Field Machinery in Cambridge, was CFO for The Sullivan Group, Boston and closed out his career as CFO for The Robb Report, Acton.  He had many financial consulting jobs on the side, including Billerica Motor Sports & Marine and Vesper Country Club just to name a few.

As a founding charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chelmsford, he served at many capacities including Finance, Trustees, Lay Leader and Choir. His service to the community didn't stop there.  He was a member of the Chelmsford Finance Committee and oversaw finances for the Center School Building Committee.  He was a Master Mason and a member of the William Sewall Gardner Lodge of Lowell, MA.

Chuck and Jean's heart was always in Maine.  Their love for Pleasant Pond in Caratunk began in the 1950's and continued throughout their life together.  They spent every free moment they could with their children and extended family at the pond.  This extraordinary, peaceful and treasured water-front home (camp) brought many together and created a lifetime of memories.  We all referred to Pleasant Pond as God's Country, where we swam, boated, fished, ate lobsters and clams and sat in front of many campfires under the brightly lit stars.  The memories that were created there are immeasurable.  While not summering in Maine, Chuck and Jean would enjoy winters in Sarasota, Florida after Chuck's retirement.

During the early years of their marriage, Chuck and Jean lived in Chelmsford, MA raising their family for 43 years.  He selflessly pledged his time to community service efforts and was admired and respected by all. A true family man, loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather.  His love was unconditional.

In addition to his devoted wife, he is survived by his four children, Charles Jr. and his wife Teresa (Leaverton), of Searsmont, ME, Jeffrey and his partner Eman Rootovich of Nashua, NH, Gregory and his wife Lynn (Bungard) of Chelmsford, and Lisa and her husband Jeff Sanborn of Chelmsford. The grandfather of ten including Lindsey, Kathryn, and Daniel (of Charles Jr. and Teresa), Alyssa, Kimberly, and Matthew (of Greg and Lynn), and Jeffrey, Micaela, Caitlin and Jonathan (of Lisa and Jeff Sanborn).  He was also the great grandfather of ten including Ruby and Colette (of Lindsey and Allison Piper), Yukon, Maeve, Bliss, and Wolfgang (of Daniel and Gretchen Piper), Mohammad, Thurayya and Resha (of Kathryn and Hussam Al-Rawi), and Everly (of Alyssa and Zach Watson).

Chuck lived a rich and rewarding life and more than earned his wings!  A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate Church, 242 Boston Road, Chelmsford, MA on Saturday March 16th at 11:00am followed by a reception.  A private service will be held this summer in Maine.
