Obituary

David Hurd (77) of Merrimack, NH passed away on December 29, 2020 after a lengthy fight against Alzheimer's disease and then ultimately coming down with Covid.

David was born on December 11, 1943 in Baltimore, MD, son of Vernon Hurd and Irene (Littlehale). He was the loving husband of Rosemarie (Marinucci) with whom he enjoyed 49 years of marriage.

Dave spent his childhood in the Boston area and attended Thompson Academy high school in Boston. He spent a lot of time in Pittsfield, NH with his uncle, Arthur Hurd, and fondly shared stories about the summers he spent helping at the family's grain store.

David joined the US Navy in 1965 where he served for 4 years stationed in Iceland and San Diego. He then attended Boston University where he met his wife, Rosemarie. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Boston with a Bachelor of Arts in politics and a minor in education. During his career he spent many years underwriting commercial properties for American Mutual Insurance company and later retired from Velcro USA working in research and development.

In his spare time, David was an avid tennis player and a voracious reader. His love of all sports showed as he coached his children's soccer and baseball teams and worked as a softball umpire. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends. David mostly enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He never met a person that wasn't a friend and he will always be remembered by his kindness and love for people and animals alike. He was known for his dad jokes and puns and could always get an eye roll from his children, if not a laugh.

David is survived by his wife, Rosemarie; Daughter Gynn Silva, his son-in-law Richard, and grandson David, of Shanghai, China; his son James Hurd, daughter-in-law Emily, and granddaughter Katherine of Westford, MA; Daughter Valerie Fish, son-in-law Casey, and grandsons Zachary and Thomas of Auburn, NH; and nephew Peter Hurd and family of Malden, MA. He is predeceased by his older sister Marcia Little of RI.

David will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He will be laid to rest at St Michael's Cemetery in Roslindale, MA. A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2021.
