Obituary

David Alexis Rose of Merrimack, NH and formerly from Billerica, MA, passed away on August 8, 2023, at the age of 83.

David is survived by his loving wife Audrey of 59 years; his son David A. Rose, Jr. and wife Paula (Panto) of Brookline, NH, his daughter Pamela Berman (Rose) and husband Craig Berman and his grandchildren Joshua Berman and Alexander Berman, all of Tyngsborough, MA.  David is also survived by his brother Robert A. Rose and wife June (Campbell) of Edgecomb, ME, his sister Louise E. Rose of Stoneham, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his father, Walter W. Rose, his mother Marie A. (Van Laethem) Rose, and his stepmother Elsa (Anderson) Rose of Reading, MA.

David was a loving, caring husband, father, and Papa. After graduating from high school in 1958, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in Texas, Kansas, and Alaska. After being honorably discharged, and having talents in mechanics and construction, David enrolled in a technical school where he gained the skills of a plumber. He became a proud member of the Boston Local 12 Plumber's Union. Over the course of his plumbing career, he worked on many of Boston's iconic construction projects, such as the Prudential Building, Mass General, Deer Island Water Treatment Plant, and The Big Dig.

When not working, David dedicated his life to his family and served his community as a member of the Tewksbury, MA Lions Club for 40 years. He held many of the club's leadership positions including Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, and President. At the state level, David furthered his Lions career as Zone Chairman, Council Chairman and ultimately the Governor of Massachusetts District 33-N.

Part of what made David's journey through the Lions even more special was having his wife Audrey by his side while attending many State and International conventions. This allowed them to travel extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.

David's significant Lions contributions were widely acknowledged at many levels. His proudest achievements were receiving the Lion of the Year Award and the prestigious Lions Club International Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

David continued to use his mechanical and trade skills even after retirement. Whether it was building many models of ships and cars, installing a pool deck with his son-in-law, building a cedar shed with his son, or a doll house for his wife, he was always working on a project. He loved boats, classic cars, the Boston Bruins, the Red Sox, but nothing will ever surpass his love for the New England Patriots.

A burial ceremony will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 29, 2023, at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, New Hampshire. Family, friends, and Lions are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund ( https://www.mlerfi.com/ ).
