David
Yeaton
August 27, 1930 – May 12, 2025
David Fisher Yeaton, 94, of Nashua NH passed away on May 12th, 2025, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Plainfield, NJ on August 27th, 1930, to the late Anne (Fisher) and Paul Yeaton. He was raised in Belgrade, ME, graduated from Belgrade High School in1948 and continued his education at Utica College (part of Syracuse University) receiving a bachelor's degree in physics in 1973. David's entire professional career was with the General Electric Company, retiring in 1990 as a manager of quality engineering department with 42 years of service.
Along with his parents, David is predeceased by his wife of 73 years Alice Louise (Callis) Yeaton, his older brother Oliver "Ollie" Yeaton, his son-in-Law Richard Hanaway and his grandson, Paul Pritchard.
David is survived by his younger brother Paul "Stacy" Yeaton, his three daughters, Susan Butler and her husband George Griffin, Elizabeth "Betty" Hanaway, and Janice Yeaton; son Steven Yeaton and his wife Karen; his four grandchildren, Erika Johnson, Bryan Butler, Johnathan Yeaton and his partner Mary Mitchell, and Jaclyn Nichols and her husband Tyler; and his five great grandchildren, Abigail Pritchard, Alana and Donald Butler, and Logan and Aurora Yeaton.
With the onset of the Great Depression of 1930, David's family moved back to Belgrade ME, the ancestral family farm built on land obtained from a Revolutionary War Pension Land Warrant. The house was constructed in 1826 on farmland which had been in the family for over 100 years. When he graduated from Belgrade High School in 1948, he left the farm and moved to Lynn, MA with his father's strong suggestion to join the General Electric Company Apprentice program. While living in Lynn, he attended church services at the First Baptist Church on Common Street and in 1949 met and became very friendly with his future wife and were married in 1951. David was promoted and entered the GE Manufacturing Management Program, which required him to take positions at many different locations such as Pittsfield MA, Erie PA, Cleveland OH, Louisville KY and Utica NY. He remained at GE Aerospace in Utica for the remainder of his career.
David was always very involved in his community taking on leadership roles, such as the Chairman of the Deerfield, NY Bicentennial Celebration Committee and he was a very conscientious and generous supporter of many charities and his church. He had several interests that he enjoyed in his free time such as traveling with his wife and family to places like Europe and many national parks all around the US including Alaska and Hawaii, playing Bridge and Cribbage, woodworking, golfing and was an avid astronomy buff. He knew the seasonal locations in the sky of all constellations, and he followed all the NASA space programs from the early years onward in great detail. In the 1970's he worked on the Voyager Deep Space Probe program where GE Utica delivered critical equipment to the program for the launch of Voyager 1 and 2 in 1977. A true testament to the program, including David's keen eye for quality, both craft are still operational in 2025 at about 48 years in duration, with Voyager 1 traveling more than 15.5 billion miles achieving the furthest distance from earth of any man-made craft, an astronomy buff's dream come true.
Per David's request, there will be no visitation or memorial services. The family will lay David to rest next to his wife with a private graveside ceremony in his beloved hometown of Belgrade, ME.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
