Elaine M. Cushman

Elaine M. Cushman, 87, a longtime resident of Merrimack, NH died Sunday, August 23, 2026 surrounded by her sons, sister, and loved ones.

She was born in Taunton, MA on November 3, 1938, a daughter of the late John and Marion (Hutchinson) Clare. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband Gene A. Cushman who died January 19, 2025 and brother John Clare.

Elaine was the epitome of love and generosity, sharing herself so freely through her time, her caring nature, and her gift for cooking. For more than 40 years, she devoted countless hours to serving the members of St. James United Methodist Church, giving generously of her time and talents to her church community.

Elaine expressed her love in so many ways, especially through gardening and cooking. She took great joy in sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends, as well as with those in need. Her generosity extended far beyond the food she prepared—it was a reflection of the warmth and kindness she carried in her heart.

Before retiring, Elaine spent many years as a pastry chef at the former Country Gourmet in Merrimack, where her love of baking and creating delicious food touched many lives.

She was a devoted wife to her husband of 64 years, Gene. Together they raised three boys and were able to enjoy four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Members of her family include three sons, Doug Cushman (David Guilmette), Jeff Cushman (Linda Tremblay), and Craig Cushman (Kristen). Her grandchildren; Nathan Cushman (Meredith), Owen Cushman (Emy), Brooke Gregson (Jacob), and Rachyl Cushman (Justin Quinton), and her two great-grandchildren: Lainey Cushman and Oakley Cushman.

Calling hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH on Friday, October 9th from 10am - 12pm followed by a service in the chapel of the funeral home.
