Elizabeth Margaret
Haynes
September 2, 1939 – July 25, 2025
Elizabeth "Betty" Margaret Haynes, 85, passed away on July 25th, 2025 with family by her side in her hometown of Merrimack NH.
Betty was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 2nd, 1939. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Lee) Cappelli. As an only child growing up, Betty loved to surround herself with family and friends as much as possible. It was comforting to her. She was a devoted wife to her late husband and childhood sweetheart, Edmund J Haynes, Jr. She was also a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She had the most beautiful smile that would light up any room that she walked into. She was a kind and caring person and just a beautiful soul.
She spent a lot of time with her grandson Eddie and loved that she lived so close to him and was able to watch him grow up into the young man he is today. She loved spending time in her yard and with her friends in New Hampshire. She enjoyed the winters in North Port, Florida with her friends in Harbor Cove. She loved animals, especially dogs and horses. She loved the beaches, lakes, mountains, manatees and dolphins. She enjoyed antiquing and going to yard sales. She was a big fan of football and baseball - growing up as a Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees fan and ultimately becoming a Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. She loved to have fun no matter where she was, who she was with or what she was doing.
Betty said, "she lived a great, long and happy life surrounded by family and friends" and that is what mattered to her the most.
Betty will always be with us and forever in our hearts.
Betty is survived by her daughter Linda Haynes Matz and partner Joseph Rizzo, her daughter Janice Haynes with partner Pamela Franco, her grandson Edward W. Matz, cousins Marie Pearson, Stella Sullivan, Mary Jane Diehm, Michele Greenstein, her lifelong childhood friends Richie and Lorraine Corcoran and honorary family member Patricia Rosati along with many more cousins and friends.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway Merrimack, New Hampshire on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a brief service to follow at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.
