Obituary

Frances “Fran” L’Heureux, 79 of Merrimack, NH passed away on November 21st, 2025, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester NH after a sudden illness,

She was born in Nashua NH on November 17,1946, the daughter of the late John A. Marchenonis and Caroline A. (Goy) Marchenonis.

Graduating from Nashua High School in 1964, Fran became a Draftsman for a short time, however her desire, was a career in law enforcement.

Her 27-year career in law enforcement began as a 7year Dispatcher with the Merrimack NH Police Department, followed by a 20-year Communication Specialist II position, with the New Hampshire State Police from which she retired in 2000.

Fran attended various law classes which enabled her to work with the FBI, the Secret Service, the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearm (ATF) Department, the Federal Drug Agency, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Interpol, and many other State, County, Local, Federal and International Law Enforcement agencies.

Upon her retirement, Fran remained active in law enforcement by becoming a Notary Public, Justice of the Peace and New Hampshire Bail Commissioner.

She enjoyed officiating at weddings, many times authoring her own marriage vows,

Fran’s devotions and contributions to Merrimack were many. Her services and civic leadership began in 1972 as a 6year school volunteer. This was followed by 5 years as an EMT with the Merrimack Ambulance Rescue Service (MARS), 3 of which were as a Team Leader.

She was the founder and Chairman of the Merrimack Library Festival, on the Board of Directors for Merrimack Crimeline, a10 year Boy Scout Troop 15 volunteer, Chairman of the Annual Merrimack Candlelight Walk, member of the Merrimack Highway Safety Committee, the Board of Directors and Treasure of the NH Older Driver Coalition (NHODC), NH Traffic Safety Commission, and Special Fund Raising for the New Hampshire Special Olympics.

Fran served Merrimack as a Selectman, member of the Planning Board, Heritage Commission, Conservation Commission, Cable TV Advisory Board, Abbie Griffin Park Advisory Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, Ethics and Budget Committees and Secretary for the Charter Commission.

Several of the organizations she belonged to include AARP, John O’Leary Adult Community Center, NH Retired Troopers

Association, Hillsborough County Law Enforcement Association and NH Police Association.

Some of her hobbies were knitting and crocheting, for which she won many 1st place awards. Many of her Afghans were donated to local organizations for fundraisers. She also would make and donate Prayer Shawls for those who needed comfort in times of difficult circumstances.

Her go to location to “get away from it all” was Pittsburg NH where she loved to photograph wildlife or sit and knit on the porch deck overlooking Lake Francis while listening to the sounds of the distant Loons.

Surviving members of her family include her husband of 58 years Robert “Bob” L’Heureux of Merrimack, two daughters Carolyn, Heather, and son John, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held Saturday May 2nd at 10:00am at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery, 61 Pine Hill Rd. Nashua, NH

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor, may be sent to the Sisters of Precious Blood, 700 Bridge St. Manchester, NH 03104.

God has her in His arms. We have her in our hearts, she will never be forgotten and forever loved.
