George Matson, 89, of Merrimack, NH passed away after a brief illness on Monday November 13, 2023.

He was born on September 4, 1934 and grew up in Weymouth, MA, eventually settling in New Hampshire. He went to Boston University for undergrad and Emerson College for his masters.

Always the academic, he pursued a career in teaching for many decades at Northeastern University, Boston University, and Hesser College, to name a few.

He also worked in speech and language consulting for many years at the Speech Improvement Company.

George enjoyed spending time with family and friends and other activities like going to the beach and tirelessly working on his suntan. He was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, and he will truly be forever loved and remembered by his family and friends.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Toivo and Ethel Matson; his wife, Anne Matson; his daughter Deborah Matson-Champagne and her husband Peter Champagne; his first wife, Shirley along with three siblings, Malcolm Partridge, Millie Schmidt, and Cynthia (Walker) Fasci.

He is survived by his and Anne's son, Eric Matson and his wife Kate and their two children Ryan and Julia; his and Shirley's two daughters, Kristin and her husband Scott Button and their four children Caleb and his wife Martha, Joshua and his wife Tracy and Daniel Button, and Emily and her husband Evan Collins, and Karen and her husband Alfred Brown and their two children Hannah and her husband Charles Lavery and Micah and her husband Nate Young along with six grandchildren, Ethan, Eliza, Jeremiah, Judah, Gideon and Patrick.

Visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack NH on Monday November 20th from 5 – 7 PM. A service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 7 PM. Burial will be held privately for the family.
