Harold Vincent Buker Jr. joined his beloved wife on June 19th, 2016. He was born in Everett, MA on July 10th, 1925, the oldest of four children to Harold Sr. and Lilian (Whiting) Buker. He graduated from Everett High and joined the Marine Corp, serving in World War II in the 1st Marine Division, 5th War Dog Platoon. He fought in the Pacific Theatre campaign and among medals earned was the Purple Heart for combat wounds received on Peleliu.
In 1946 he married his soulmate, Barbara W. (McLetchie) and together they took a 69 year incredible journey, each the perfect half of a perfect whole. He lived his life for his wife and four children, adored his grandchildren and enjoyed the company of many friends.
He wore many hats in his lifetime and was well respected in each role. He was a Boy Scout leader, a police officer, and the manager of the Ralston Purina Research Farm in Merrimack, NH before moving to Grey Summit, MO where he accepted the position of manager of the Ralston Purina Pet Care Research Center, where he served for many years. He was a member of the Lions and a Mason for 60 years. He raised many fine dogs and always had one by his side. He was an outstanding horseman and in his youth taught riding lessons at Wyoming Academy in MA.
After spending many years in Missouri "Pop and Gram" moved to New Durham, NH to be closer to family.
He leaves behind his four children and their spouses, Scott and Meg Buker of Merrimack, Kim and Rita Buker of Center Sandwich, Wendy and David Rodgers of Wolfeboro, Holly Buker of Wentworth as well as eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents, brother Charles Buker, sisters Dorothy Rochette and Emma Dodge and in 2015 his loving wife Barbara.
He will be remembered for his devotion to family and friends as well as his love for children, animals, outstanding work ethic, sense of humor, his ability to whistle any tune, and his love of country. He was a "Semper Fi" Marine whose last request was to be laid to rest in his Marine Corp Blues. He will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be in the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH Friday June 24, 2016 from 11-1 PM. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at 1 PM.
