January 25, 1931 – August 9, 2020
Helen Maioriello, 89, a long-time resident of Merrimack, NH passed away at her home on Sunday August 9, 2020 after a courageous 2- year battle with cancer. Helen was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
Helen was born on January 25, 1931 in Roseto PA. She was the daughter of Italian born immigrants Domenick and Maria DeFranco of Roseto, PA. Helen had 11 siblings, 6 brothers and 5 sisters. It was this traditional Italian upbringing that shaped Helen's love of cooking, and family.
Helen was the wife of the late Joseph W. Maioriello who passed away on June 10, 2001. Helen was educated in the Bangor, PA school district. Following high school Helen attended Churchman's Business College and then furthered her degree at Trenton State College earning a degree in business administration.
In her early years Helen enjoyed a career in numerous secretarial positions. After moving to New Hampshire, she decided to change career paths and join the world of Real Estate. She obtained her Real Estate degree and from there enjoyed many years of success winning many awards and meeting many wonderful people of whom many became lifelong friends.
In her early years Helen was extremely active and enjoyed skiing and playing tennis. As the years moved on Helen discovered and enjoyed playing bridge and canasta with her friends at Parker Village. What Helen enjoyed most throughout her entire life was to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends with her special Italian meals.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Frank, Paul, Anthony, Danny, Dominick along with sisters Clemie, Mamie, Rose, and Lucy.
Helen is survived by her sister Jennie Steinmetz of Bangor, PA and children Kathy Chapman and her husband Richard Shultz and their son Nick of Medford Mass. Her son Robert Chapman of Bedford NH, her son Mark Maioriello and his wife Tammy and their sons Mark, Nico, and Mateo of Mount Laurel, NJ. Her stepdaughter Diane Maioriello of Kittery ME, her son Kai Kurylak and his wife Saudia and great granddaughter Ella of Randolph NJ, and Anthony Kurlak of Hampton NH. Her stepson Michael Maioriello and his wife Phyllis and their children Joey and his husband Andrew of Virginia, Dino and his wife Jenna of Novato California, and Nicole and her husband Norman of California. In addition to her 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter Helen is also survived by many nieces and nephews to include a special few, niece Mary Jo Leonardo, Suzanne Hubert, Denise Podwats, nephew Richard Horn, and goddaughter Debbie Ockterman.
In addition to her family Helen is survived by many special friends that brought love and joy to her each and every day: Joe Tate, Maria Peguri, Joan Baldassari, Carol & Bob Innis, Michelle & Vincent Servello, Pat & Pattie Santelli, John & Carliss Harris, Barbara Miller, Nancy Ryan, Phyliss McCarthy, Marilyn Scott, Steve Kurylak & family, Janet & Alberto DeAlmendo & family, Patty McSharry, Sergio Hebra, Diane London, Charlie McCaffery, Pauline Chiasson, Ginnie McCauley, Charlene Chinni, and her many wonderful friends from her bridge and canasta groups.
Helen was a woman of integrity and generosity. She had strong moral values, and she had a strong faith in God. Helen was loved by all who knew her. Helen and her beautiful smile will truly be missed but her memories will last forever.
Due to the current public health and safety concerns, funeral services will be held in private. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 AM on Wednesday August 19 th at Our Lady of Mercy in Merrimack, NH. All may meet at the church and are asked to adhere to social distancing and face covering guidelines. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. The Rivet Funeral Home in Merrimack, NH is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory may be made to the New Jersey Down's Syndrome Society (globaldownsyndrome.org) or the American Cancer Society.
