Jack Z. Higgins Sr. 87, a longtime resident of Merrimack, NH died Sat. Feb 22, 2025, at Southern NH Regional Medical Center in Nashua. He was born in Belfast, ME on Feb. 12, 1938, a son of the late Elliott J. Higgins Jr. and Beatrice M. (Tabbutt) Higgins. Jack was a proud veteran of the United States Army and Reserves and served his country from 1956 to 1962. Following his military career, Jack met and married the love of his life, Lorraine (Ayotte) Higgins of Lowell, MA. He and Lorraine made a home in Merrimack in 1965, where they raised their family. Before retirement, Jack was employed as a carpenter for Dana Patterson Inc. for over 20 years, in addition to Ayotte Kitchen and Bath and Bormann Bros Moving and Rigging. He was also a retired Lt. for the Merrimack Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, Jack is pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lorraine, a son Erik Higgins, a brother Warren William Higgins, two sisters, Nancy Harrington and Rosanne Stapleford. Mourning his loss is Jack's brothers Elliott Higgins, and wife Frances of OR, William Ellis and his wife Carol of PA, and Arthur Ellis of NH, and sisters Florence Estabrook and husband Timothy of ME and Laurie Allen and her husband Mark of VA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his son, Jason Higgins, and his wife, Dori, of Merrimack, along with their son, Brady. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Samantha Higgins, and her and Erik's children, Ryan, Daniel, and Valerie. Additionally, Jack leaves behind his son, Jack Higgins Jr, grandson, Joshua, and Joshua's fiancée, Nicole of Merrimack, along with their children, Jackson and Ariya.
There are no calling hours. A memorial graveside service with military honors will be held in the NH Veterans cemetery in Boscawen, NH on Friday Feb. 28, 2025, at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Fisher House Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project.
