Mabel Elizabeth
Field
August 17, 1932 – March 14, 2026
Mabel "Betty" Elizabeth Field, 93, of Merrimack, NH, passed away on March 14, 2026, surrounded by close family members.
Born in Harmony, Maine in 1932 to Walter and Lois Tripp, she was also the younger sister of Jack Tripp. Her parents bought a hunting and fishing lodge in Princeton, Maine where she would later grow up and graduate high school. After high school, she made her way to Jaffrey, New Hampshire, where she worked in a cotton mill and would fall in love and marry Charles Field, her husband of 64 years. They then moved to Merrimack, NH and raised a family. Being a quick learner with a sharp mind, Betty would also become a secretary and later a cosmetologist.
Life being a true circle, Betty found her way back to Princeton, Maine in the early 1980s where she took over the family lodge with her husband. Known for her quick wit and storytelling skills, clients saw her more as a friend. A fantastic cook, Betty was quick to share recipes and cooking tips with family and friends. From baking homemade bread to filleting fish, there was no better cook to learn from. Betty was active in her church community and was always known to lend a hand with potluck dinners.
Betty returned to Merrimack, NH in 2015 to be closer to family. Betty was predeceased by her husband Charles Field and son Doug Field. She is survived by her daughter Carol Baker, her son Frank (Vaughn) Field, and daughter-in-law Ann Field, as well as six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Village Bible Church, 25½ Main Street, Amherst, NH on Saturday, April 11th, 2026 at 11:45 AM. A private burial will be in Last Rest Cemetery in Merrimack, NH at the convenience of the family.
