Marjorie Anne
Gunn
December 31, 1970 – January 5, 2023
Marjorie "Jorie" A. Gunn, longtime resident of Merrimack, NH, is returning to the state that she loved most after a 5 year hiatus in Massachusetts. She died on Thursday Jan. 5, 2023 - just 5 days after her 52 nd birthday - at HealthAlliance /Clinton Hospital in Leominster, MA.
She was born in Livonia, MI on Dec. 31, 1970 a daughter of the late Brian C. and Nancy K. (Slyfield) Mitchell. They soon moved to NH, a decision that would come to be seen as the greatest wisdom. an Intelligent and driven woman, she spent most of the 90's an early 2000's working her way up in the local tech sector- most notably as a tech support for telecommunications startup See you/See Me, and later as a Sales Support Specialist for PC Connection/ Gov Connection.
Fiercely proud of her Scottish heritage, she loved to attend the NH Scottish Highland Games (most recently held at Loon Mountain NH) where she could listen to bagpipes and eat Haggis all day. She even went so far as to have the Thistle (national flower of Scotland) tattooed on her back! As fate would have it, in 2008 she met Scotsman Joel Gunn - who quickly realized his good fortune and married her on April 11, 2009. Although they did not have children together, they did adopt a Scottish terrier mix puppy named Ripley in 2012.
Marji loved many outdoors activities and in fact spent most of her adolescence building forts and swimming in the Souhegan River with her sister Karen and neighbor Erin Rooney. This later developed into a love of wildlife in general (and birds in particular) and a skill for gardening. She was especially proud of the giant Hastas that she was gifted by her mother.
Marji was a big, brash, beautiful soul that could not be ignored and will be sorely missed. She is survived by Joel, her husband of almost 14 years, her two dogs (Ripley and Lorna), 4 chickens, and a hermit crab (Hermione). Also mourning her loss is her sister Karen (Mitchell) Barrows and husband Richard, and their two children Kirsti Barrows-Smith and Kyle Barrows.
A graveside service will be held in the NH Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH on Tuesday Jan. 10, 2023 at 1 PM.
