Obituary

Marjorie "Margie" (Pollard) Johnston, a well-known and well-loved resident of Merrimack, NH for the last 60 years, passed away on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a short stay at the Cardiac ICU Elliot Hospital in Manchester. She was 79 years old.

Born in Chicod, NC on February 2nd, 1945, Margie was the daughter of the late Wyatt Benjamin Pollard and Bertie (Meeks) Barrington. Raised in Washington, NC, she graduated from Washington High School in 1963.

After graduation, Margie traveled to Merrimack, NH to visit three siblings who lived in the area. While visiting, she went on a blind date with Walter "Wally" Johnston and before long they were married on April 11th, 1964 in Hudson, NH. They then built their forever home in Merrimack in 1964.

At that time, Walter owned and operated Johnston Flooring Service and Margie worked alongside him as secretary and treasurer for 60 years. Later, together they opened a warehouse and showroom facility where Margie was in charge of sales.

In her younger years, Margie enjoyed gardening, bowling, travelling – especially cruises to the Caribbean Islands and to casinos around New England, and especially to Aruba where they owned a time-share for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by three siblings, Edna Link, Steven Pollard and Joe Pollard.

She will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 60 years, Walter Johnston; a son, Robert Johnston of VA; three brothers, Benjamin Pollard and his wife Linda of Nashua, Billy Pollard and his wife Willy of WA and Bobby Pollard of WA; many nieces and nephews and very close friends, Rebecca Kress of Merrimack and Julia Faska of Brookline.

Margie's family would like to thank the staff of the Cardiac ICU on the 5th floor of the Elliot Hospital for the services and care they provided during her stay; the Merrimack Fire & Rescue Department for the many emergency runs to Nashua and Manchester Hospitals – the groups of firefighters and EMT's on every shift, day or night, did a super and professional job; and to all the nurses and staff at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack for the excellent and efficient care during her stay; and also to the RNs, Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists from Home, Heath & Hospice for all the care they provided for Margie in her home for the past year.

Visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack on Friday, September 20th, 2024 from 11 AM – 1 PM. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home at 1 PM with burial to follow at Last Rest Cemetery in Merrimack.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Margie's memory can be made to Home, Health & Hospice, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054 or online at www.hhhc.org
