A Life Lived to the Fullest

Janie, Mom, MJ, Grama was a cheerleader for all--her love of life was infectious, and she embraced it to the fullest for 92 years. From playing on the CYO basketball court in her youth, cheering at Legion Field in Weymouth during High School, diving into adventures at Colby Sawyer College in New Hampshire, and entertaining friends and family in hospital rooms, at dinner tables, and on golf courses with songs and stories, hers has been an interesting life.

Stories abound about Mary-Jane and her undying spirit. From singing early morning show tunes to her five sleepy teenagers in the 1970s, to jogging two miles alongside her husband for several decades, MJ also hiked the Grand Canyon and her beloved Mount Washington as a grandmother. Along with Norman, Mary-Jane was a member of the Cohasset, MA Pocasset, MA and the Amelia Island, FL golf clubs for many years.

Mary-Jane was married to Norman, (deceased), her high school sweetheart, for 67 years. After starting out on a three-year commitment in Japan, together they built a successful insurance business in Massachusetts and raised five children; Martha Jane Wright; JoAnn Wright Scott (husband, David); Sally Lucy Wright (husband, Stephen Lee); Joseph N. Wright, deceased; and Penelope Wright Nelson (husband, Andrew). Besides helping build a family business, Mary-Jane also ran a summer business in Eastham, MA from 1970-1985, and volunteered at the New England Deaconess hospital and for the LUVS program for abused children in Florida.

Predeceased by her parents Lucy Bowen Parker and Joseph W. Mahoney of Weymouth, MA, and all three of her sisters; Kathleen Durgin, Geraldine Mahoney, and Nancy Martin. Mary-Jane leaves behind ten grandchildren and their partners, eight great-grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Lucy Martin and Mary Beth Kerrigan.

Mary-Jane’s family would like to thank the entire staff of both Bridges Memory Care in Nashua NH and the Hospice House of Merrimack NH.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
