On April 26, 2026, our beloved Natalie passed away peacefully at the age of ninety-one. This amazing soul gently touched the lives of so many people.
Born in Brockton, MA, on July 20, 1934, to Chester and Anna Ricknell, she attended school there and went on to graduate from Boston University with an associate degree. She married Arthur Swenson in 1956 and had three children: Peter, Kurt, and Lesley. They lived in several states over the years including Kentucky, New York, Ohio, and Maine, ultimately making their home in Merrimack, NH. Natalie held various administrative support positions with the Merrimack school system.
Natalie was a great admirer of music and was blessed with a beautiful voice. She had a contagious laugh and a great sense of humor. She was an avid animal lover and caretaker of all creatures, big and small, and was known to have rescued countless "critters" over the years. She was an amazing cook, famous for her homemade pies, roast beef dinners, and morning “eggy toast”. She was a wonderful host and organized so many memorable holiday celebrations.
With a twinkle in her eye and an imagination to match, she captured the hearts and souls of her much-loved grandchildren Talia, Lynn, Dane, Kyle, Kara, and Jon and those of her great grandchildren Luca, Vera, Alex, Bria, and Olive. Natalie is also survived by her children Peter Swenson of Georgetown TX, Kurt Swenson of Northfield NH and Lesley Appert of Merrimack, NH, along with her daughters-in-law Lisa Swenson and Liz Swenson, and her son-in-law Phil Appert.
So many wonderful memories of her will live on in us, and these will shape generations to come. Her legacy is one of love and kindness and strength, the greatest gifts of all.
A private family service and burial at the NH Veterans' Memorial Cemetery is planned for later this spring, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Arthur.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Natalie’s name can be made to the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire https://www.rescueleague.org
