Norman A. Thibault, 75, of Bedford, NH and former longtime resident of Merrimack, NH passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in St. Albans, VT on October 9th, 1950 to the late Joffre and Alcina (St. Denis) Thibault. He was raised in St. Albans where he often played pickup ball with friends, climbed many trees, and remarked that he was “the luckiest boy in the world.” He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree from UNH in Electrical Engineering and later earned his MBA degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA while working full time in his first job at Westinghouse in Beaver, PA. Norm most recently worked for Elbit Systems as a Buyer and Planner for many years until his retirement in 2018.
Norm was a devout Catholic. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus and participated in several other activities with his community at Our Lady of Mercy, including serving as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He developed a deep passion for the preborn and their families, and he led the Forty Days for Life Manchester campaigns for the last 5 years.
Norm loved the natural wonders of New Hampshire. He especially enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains with his son Joel, and they both joined the 4000-footer club after conquering all 48 qualifying peaks in the state. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed almost every sport. He never gave up hope that the UNH Men’s Hockey team would one day win the Frozen Four NCAA championship. Go Wildcats! He loved Lake Winnipesaukee where his in-laws Pauline and Ray Brown owned a home for many years and where his family enjoyed many summers together. He loved to plan trips and traveled to many places with his wife, Patty, including Europe and the Canadian Rockies. More locally in recent years they visited over 200 NH historical markers. He was a lover of music and had the privilege of attending Woodstock in 1969.
He will be remembered as a good man who loved God and his family. He enjoyed deep conversations and always tried to understand others who had different views than himself. He had a great sense of humor and prided himself on not taking himself too seriously. He believed in small everyday miracles and encouraged us to look for these in our lives, too.
Along with his parents, he was pre-deceased by his sister-in-law, Kathy Worcester.
Norm will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Patricia (Brown) Thibault; four children: Joel Thibault and his partners Amanda Gutowski and Kate Estrop, Gregory Thibault, Laurie and her husband Jake Garland, and Rebecca and her husband Mitchell Langman; four grandchildren: Abbie, Katherine, Cassandra, and Noah; a sister Paule Button; along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack NH on Friday, May 8th, 2026 from 5 – 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack NH on Saturday, May 9th at 10 AM. A private burial will be held in Last Rest Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
