Paul S. Winalski, 71, of Merrimack New Hampshire passed away on September 17, 2026, at his home in Merrimack, NH.
Paul was born in 1955 in Charleston, South Carolina to H. Paul and Corinne (Scherman) Winalski and raised in Wethersfield, Connecticut. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors degree from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1976. Paul then attended graduate school at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. After graduation, he went on to a long professional career initially with Digital Equipment Corporation, then Compaq, then HP, and, finally, he retired from Intel. He was a talented and very knowledgeable software engineer who specialized in programming tools and compilers. Paul intensely pursued many interests including music, wine, cooking, British comedy, Formula 1 and IndyCar racing, and, especially, Astronomy.
Paul joined the New Hampshire Astronomical Society (NHAS) in the early 2000s and was Secretary for more than a decade. Paul particularly loved the society’s public "sky-watches" and worked with schools, libraries, and clubs to find suitable locations. He was endlessly patient helping both children and adults see and learn at these events.
Paul was loved by all his friends, family, and acquaintances and will very much be missed. He is survived by his brother, Carl, sister-in-law Erika, and his family of Digital colleagues, fellow astronomers and online friends.
At his request, there will be no service.
