Richard A.
Maloon
May 21, 1940 – May 8, 2023
Richard Allyn "Guy" Maloon died at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH, on May 8, 2023. He was born on May 21, 1940 to Clarence F. Maloon and Ruth Baker Maloon (née Savory) in Swampscott, MA.
He attended Aborn Elementary, Lynn English Junior High, and Lynn English High School. Richard graduated from Lowell Technological Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961. He worked as a physics instructor at Lowell Tech from 1961-63, an electronics engineer from 1963 to 2004 for Sanders Associates, Nashua, NH (later Lockheed Martin and then BAE Systems), during which time he secured two patents in digital signal processing.
He married and fathered two sons, Robert and Richard. After a divorce, he met the love of his life, Terri Maloon, through their volunteer work with the Audubon Society of New Hampshire. They married in 1988, and Richard moved to Merrimack and became father to Terri's children.
In his younger days, Richard loved playing ice hockey and hiking. After retirement in 2004, he devoted himself to community service in Merrimack, NH, recently restoring tombstones at several graveyards and cemeteries. He held office and gave talks for the NH Old Graveyard Association. He audited countless courses at the University of New Hampshire over the last twenty years. With his dry sense of humor and love of routine, Richard surprised us all with his capacity for being such a patient and admiring Grandpa. He found children truly amusing, and seemed content to take things as they come, two qualities for which he will be fondly remembered.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Terri Maloon, his sons, Richard Edward Maloon of Massachusetts, and Robert Allyn Maloon of South Lake Tahoe, CA, his four bonus children, Leon (Sara) MacCorkle of Bristol, ME, Becky (Igor Frenkel) MacCorkle Hall of Houston, TX, Kate (Sam Collins) MacCorkle of Hillsboro, OR, and Susan (Rick Gerriets) MacCorkle of Baltimore, MD, his six bonus grandchildren, his sister, Marilyn MacNair of Lynn, MA, his brother, Malcolm Maloon, of Lynn, MA, nieces Suzanne and Laura of MA, and many friends.
Donations in Richard's honor can be made to the ALS Association or Community Hospice House
