Obituary

Robert J. Baxter (Bob), 79, of Merrimack, NH and formerly of New Port Richey, FL, passed unexpectedly on September 22, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him.

He was born in Worcester, MA on July 26th, 1946, beloved son of the late Robert and Elenor (Quilty) of Scituate, MA.  He received his Bachelor's Degree from Villanova in Biology with dreams of becoming a veterinarian.  Driven by a strong sense of duty and patriotism, upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a lieutenant in the Vietnam War.  Bob completed 2 successive tours of duty, bravely fighting in many battles and being awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in the line of duty, along with other medals of Commendations during his service in Vietnam.  He achieved the rank of Captain before leaving the marines.

Never one to rest on his achievements, Bob returned to his academic pursuits and earned a Master's Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  He then embarked on a distinguished career, becoming Director of Public Health at Raytheon, where he was recognized as the youngest person to hold this position in his office.  Bob was in his element outdoors-hiking, fishing, reading, trivia, and animals of all kinds, with a special fondness of dogs and cats.

Above all, Bob cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife Donna; his children, Justin (Alyson), Christian (Laurie) and Allison; stepsons Christian A. (Katy), Cameron (deceased), and Anderson Steckler; grandchildren Avery, Weston, and Maisy; stepdaughters Felicity and Melody; his brother Mark (wife Monica), and Stephen (deceased); his sister Ellen (deceased); and multiple nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Known as Captain Bob he is especially missed by his friends Dave, Terri, Dan and many more.

Per Bob's wishes, the family will hold a Military Honors Burial Ceremony at Boscowan Veteran Cemetery in the Spring of 2026 [at a time and date later to be announced].  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any animal rights or environmental causes.

Bob will be remembered for his courage, intelligence, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of service, curiosity, and kindness that will be cherished by all that knew him.
