Robert "Bob"
W. Lippman
April 26, 1947 – October 10, 2021
Robert "Bob" W. Lippman, 74, a longtime resident of Merrimack, NH, passed away on Sunday, October 10 th , 2021.
He was born in Malden, MA on April 26th. 1947 to the late E. Lee and Jean (Sanborn) Page. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Sheila, from whom he was inseparable. He is also survived by his daughter Jenna and her husband Michael, of Rochester, NY and their children, as well as his son Conor and partner Samantha and their son, Faelan. He will be sorely missed by his many siblings, step siblings, nieces, nephews and their families.
For over thirty years, "Coach Bob" was involved in youth athletics in the town of Merrimack, coaching Little League and Cal Ripken baseball and Pop Warner football. He took enormous pride in teaching generations of Merrimack children the values of dedication, teamwork, integrity, sportsmanship and self confidence. "Coach Bob" was a true believer in the underdog. Nothing gave him greater satisfaction than to take a team of "little guys with heart" and teach them to draw out their strengths and work together to outwit and overcome opponents twice their size. He never forgot a single player on any of his teams and would often encounter grown adults in town to whom he could say, "Can you still throw that curve...?" or "I remember that touchdown you scored up the middle against Salem...".
In his professional life, Bob was a fixer of problems. As a field service technician for Toshiba Business Solutions and it's many previous incarnations, he took great satisfaction in being able to solve a problem for a client or a coworker. He loved to work together to find a solution to whatever quandary the day presented. He would go the extra mile, bring the one needed part or ask the question that would so often trigger the epiphany that led to the solution.
Later in life, Bob discovered a passion for genealogy as a natural extension of his love of history. He loved to follow the clues and fill in the gaps of a family tree, whether his own or someone else's, to bring clarity out of occlusion and to remember what had been forgotten. He believed that in order to know where we are going, it was important to know where we came from. He gave freely of his time at the New England Genealogical Society in Boston as a volunteer researcher where he helped many people to connect with the history that he loved so much.
In 2012, Bob underwent major heart surgery and his recovery was little short of miraculous. After his surgery, he was filled with a desire to give comfort to those who would soon undergo a similar procedure. He became a fixture of the Caring Hearts volunteer program at Catholic Medical Center and the New England Heart Institute. He would often meet with two or three patients in a day and answer any questions they had about what they could expect after their procedures from a firsthand perspective. He was a source of great comfort and encouragement to many people facing one of the most defining moments in their lives.
Of the many lessons he taught throughout his life, the one he believed in the most was this: Never take a called third strike. If you're going to go down, you had better go down swinging. At the time of his passing, Bob had recently undergone an operation that would have helped him increase his mobility and allowed him to chase his grandson around on the beach. The surgery was a success and he was facing a slow recovery process which he did not get to complete but here's the thing; even at the end, he never gave up swinging. I am so proud of you, Dad.
