Obituary

Roland E. Farland, 89, of Manchester, NH, and a former longtime resident of Merrimack, NH died Monday, June 26, 2023, after a period of declining health.

He was born in Nashua, NH on August 8, 1933, a son of the late Alfred and Mildred L. (Otis) Farland.

Roland was a lifelong resident of Nashua and Merrimack, where he attended school and graduated from Merrimack High School.

He attended UNH in Durham and retired from Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company in 1999 after 25 years.

Roland was very active in Merrimack. He was a former director of MYA Girls Basketball and Softball, a former member of the Merrimack Zoning Board, and a former President of the Merrimack Senior Citizens, where he loved playing cards. He always looked forward to watching his kids and their friends play sports, as well as spending time with grandkids and great-grandkids.

He was a US Airforce veteran who served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion. Roland was also a Benevolent 7 Masonic Lodge member in Milford, NH.

In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by a son-in-law Richard Rodriguez who died in 2022, and a sister Joanne Twardosky who died in 2000.

Members of his surviving family include his wife of 63 years, Margaretrose (Jaeger) Farland of Manchester; a daughter Robinann Zapanas and her husband Stan of Florida; a son Roland "Chuck" Farland II and his wife Amy of Merrimack; Cheryl Rodriguez of Merrimack, and Gretchen Agresti and her husband Paul of Manchester; and his cousin Kathy Melendy as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held in the Rivet Funeral Home & Crematorium, 425 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH on July 6, 2023 from 4-7 PM. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, June 7th at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack, NH.
