Stuart “Stu” Bruce Lewin, 66, of Merrimack, NH, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, from complications after a brief battle with cancer.
Stu was born on March 17, 1960, in Riverhead, Long Island, to Victor and Patricia (Brown) Lewin. In 1962, the family moved to Cherry Plain, NY. Stu graduated from Berlin High School in 1978, before attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he graduated in 1982 with a degree in aerospace engineering. After graduation, Stu moved to NH and began working at Sanders of Nashua (now BAE Systems), where he remained for the entirety of his career. He loved engineering and worked his way to the role of Technical Director. In 2020, he was inducted into BAE Systems’ Global Engineering Fellowship, an honor he was very proud of.
Stu was a loving father to his son, Sam, and his daughter, Lexxie, who both have fond memories of listening to Car Talk on NPR and eating old-fashioned donuts with him on Saturday mornings. He was proud of Sam for his career as a canine handler at the Manchester Regional Airport, and in watching Lexxie earn her law degree from New England Law | Boston.
Stu shared his life with his long-time partner, Marianne Stewart, and cherished their time together. They enjoyed traveling to places like Ireland & Scotland and visited many National Parks. Marianne introduced Stu to hiking, and together they climbed mountains from Ben Nevis in Scotland to all 48 New Hampshire 4,000 footers. Perhaps his greatest adventure with Marianne was their adoption of her grandson, Silas. One of the many joys of Stu’s life was watching Silas play soccer. He was very proud of the player and the young man Silas is becoming.
Stu’s love for engineering led to his role as a mentor for Team 501 - The Powerknights. He began mentoring when Sam started high school in 2010 and continued even after both his kids had graduated. Stu loved working with the students and helping them develop a passion for programming.
Stu had the biggest heart and was always there for those he loved. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Stu is survived by his father Victor H. Lewin, Jr.; his son Samuel E. Lewin & his girlfriend Daisy Bewley; his daughter Alexandra J. Lewin; his adopted son Silas Stewart; his partner Marianne Stewart; his brother Douglas Lewin & sister-in-law Kelly Lewin; his niece Victoria Lewin Matteson & her husband Jeffrey Matteson; lifelong friends Lisa Smith & Joseph Carr; his college bestfriend Har Levinson; and many other aunts, uncles, & cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pat Lewin.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Medical ICU of Brigham & Women’s Hospital for the extraordinary kindness, dignity, and care they provided to Stu.
After cremation, a memorial service will be held on Friday, June 12th at Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH. The family will receive guests starting at 4:00 PM, with the memorial service beginning promptly at 5:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stu's honor to the Powerknights (checks should be made out to Powerknights Robotics Team 501, and mailed to Powerknights Robotics Team 501, C/O T. Kopacz. 255 Wallace Road, Goffstown, NH 03054).
