Susan Lorraine
Geraghty
July 3, 2023
Susan Lorraine Geraghty (Ostrander) passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH, with family by her side.
Born in Waterbury, CT and raised in Naugatuck, CT, Susan graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1966 and continued her education at what is now known as Western Connecticut State University, completing her studies in 1970. She and her husband moved, with their two children, to Amherst, NH in 1977.
Always focused on helping others, Susan dedicated many years to nurturing the young minds of Amherst as a first-grade teacher at the Clark School. She touched countless lives, instilling not just knowledge but also kindness in her students.
Susan's outgoing nature was impossible to miss. She had a knack for lightening up the room with a quick pun or funny quips and loved bringing people together for laughs around a board or card game. Her warmth extended beyond people and into nature, where she cultivated her flower garden and was always ready to trade plants and gardening tips with friends. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed sharing her passion through her local book club.
Adventurous at heart, Susan enjoyed the great outdoors, hiking and snowshoeing with The Pasquanney Snowshoe Club, a group she was proudly a part of as a board member. She was also a part-time leader at the Bone Builders exercise class, encouraging others to enjoy physical activity. Susan was further involved in the community as a member of the Hebron Area Women's Group and enjoyed making soup with the Soup Group of the Hebron Union Congregational Church.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Jim Geraghty, her daughter Megan Hostler, son-in-law Richard, their two sons Ethan and Jason of Merrimack, NH, and her son Patrick of Brockport, NY, as well as her brother, William Ostrander and his wife Theresa of Naugatuck, CT.
Susan's life was marked by her deep care for others and her vivacious spirit. Her memory will be forever cherished by those who knew her. In keeping with her spirit of caring, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Susan's memory to the Community Hospice House, C/O Home, Health & Hospice, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054
A memorial service will be held at the Bristol United Church of Christ, 15 Church Street Bristol, NH on Friday July 21st at 2:00PM with a reception to follow in the church's Fellowship Hall.
