Ursula "Dolly" B. Classon, 87, longtime resident of Merrimack and former resident of Hillsborough, NH passed away on Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester. She was the widow of Gerald "Jerry" Classon, who died in 2019.
Dolly was born in Andover, MA on August 12th, 1933 to the late James and Ursula (Reeves) Taylor. She received her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the Elliot School of Nursing and worked as an RN until she decided to go into teaching. Dolly helped start Merrimack PTA Kindergarten, was active in the research and development of the curriculum and served on the Kindergarten Board. After furthering her education with the University of New Hampshire, she went on to work as a kindergarten teacher for the Merrimack PTA Kindergarten for 35 years.
Dolly was a member of the Rockingham #3 Order of the Eastern Star, Pilgrim Chapter No. 55, O.E.S., and the Red Hat Society. Dolly was a former member of the New Hampshire Association for the Education of Young Children, member of Readiness Teachers Association. and a Sunday School Teacher at St. James Methodist Church. Dolly enjoyed dedicating her time volunteering alongside Jerry, to help raise funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Dolly had a passion for traveling, reading, painting, knitting, crocheting, and embroidering.
Along with her husband Jerry, parents James and Ursula, she was pre-deceased by her brother and sister-in-law, George Taylor and his wife Mildred.
Dolly will be forever loved and remembered by her three children, Deborah and her husband Garry Heath of Parkersburg, WV, James Classon and his wife Cheryl of Summerville, SC, and Pamela and her husband Peter Winter of Amherst, NH; five grandchildren, Jonathan Heath and his wife Cierra, David Heath, Joseph Winter, Matthew Winter and Andrew Winter along with several nieces & nephews.
Visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021 from 4 - 6 PM. A private graveside committal service will be held for the family at the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dolly's memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Processing Center, PO Box 863765, Orlando, FL 32886 or lovetotherescue.org
