Obituary

William C. Hummel, 96, of Merrimack passed away peacefully on Monday Aug. 12, 2024 at his home after a period of declining health.

He was born in Little Rock, AR on April 22, 1928, a son of the late Clifford M. and Hilda C. (Alexander) Hummel.

Bill was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Ann Hummel.

Bill was a founding member of St. James Methodist Church.

He will be forever remembered by his sister Bobbi Sue and husband Bob Chouinard and his seven children, Douglas Hummel, Carol and her husband Richard Hall, Roger Hummel and his wife Debi, Robert Hummel, Marc Hummel and his wife Nancy, Jeff Hummel and his wife Tracy, and Elyse Hummel, seven grandchildren, William, Michael, Scott, Sean, Josh, Danielle, and Devin; four step-grandchildren, Ami, Corey, Kristin, and Justin;  great-grandchildren, Jacob, Samuel and Charlotte, Reese, Maddison, Timothy and Kailey, Zander, Ivan, Sofia, Cole, Saira, Reed, Clive, River and Natalie along with 3 nieces and nephews, Brad Chouinard, Brian Chouinard, Rebecca Plant, Carrie Chouinard, Janice (Covelli)Rogers, John Covelli, Jr. and Josh Prokop.

Bill graduated in 1946 from Little Rock High School, Little Rock Arkansas and was a member of the Concert and Marching Band and was a licensed pilot.

Bill was a 32º Scottish Rite Freemasonry Orient of Arkansas, Little Rock.

Bill enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1947-1952 separating as a Radioman First Class on the ship PCE #904.  Bill completed tours that included Pearl Harbor Hawaii, Midway, American Samoa, Philippines, the Mediterranean, Naples, Italy and Cannes France among other locations. He experienced traveling through the Panama Canal and crossing the Equator.

Bill was a member of the Ham Radio Civil Defense (CD), the Nashua Fish and Game, and an Ocala Florida Flying Eagles pilot club member.

There are no calling hours. A graveside service with Military Honors will take place on Friday August 16th, 2024 at 12 noon in the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
