Wilson "Will" Dyer, 93, of Milford, NH passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 29, 2023. Born in Caribou, Maine on May 31, 1929, to Roy and Bessie (Hersom) Dyer, he spent the past 57 years residing in southern New Hampshire. He graduated as class Valedictorian from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill, Maine in 1947. In 1950, he became a Sgt First Class in the U. S. Army, 35th Regiment, 25th Infantry Division and fought in the Korean War. For his service, he was recognized with the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Purple Heart, the Korean service Medal, and the United Nation Service medal. He later graduated with distinction with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was an elected member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. During his career, he worked for Ingersoll Rand, Foxboro Co., Nashua Corp., and Freudenburg NOK. In retirement, he delivered prescription drugs part-time to patients for various pharmacies where he was affectionately called "The Lone Ranger." For 25 years, he actively square danced and became a square dance caller as a member of the New England Council of Callers Association. For ten years, he served as the main caller for the Mason Wolf Rockers Square Dance Club. In addition, he called for many area clubs including The Depot Squares and Pieces of Eight. Locals remember him as a huge fan of the Merrimack High School girls basketball team in the early 2000's and having a favorite restaurant that would switch over time, but most recently Joey's Diner in Amherst, NH. His grandchildren recall him building them "the best playhouse" in their back yard when they were young children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Violet D Hohmann and Irene Grass, and his brother, Floyd Dyer. He is survived by his wife Lira A (Theodore) Dyer and his two daughters: Deborah Dyer Bilak and her husband, Daniel, and Martha Dyer Guidry and her husband, John, and three grandchildren, Elise, Monique, and Elliot. He has two stepsons, Charles O. Johnson III and Jason T. Johnson and his wife. Cheri, and their two daughters. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Charlene Dyer, and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life. His Wake will be held at Rivet's Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, NH on Thursday, February 16 from 3 - 6 PM. His Funeral will be held at 10 AM on Friday, February 17 at the Veterans Cemetery in Boscowen, NH. Following that will be a memorial luncheon at Christ Church of Amherst, 58 Merrimack Rd., Amherst, NH.
