Carol Knight Harvell died Saturday, Sept 17, 2011 at her home in Merrimack. She was 79.
She was born on August 4, 1932 in Jane Lew West Virginia the only child of Laco B. Knight and Maxine S. Knight. During her childhood she moved frequently, returning often to Jane Lew. In 1947 she moved to Fairborn Ohio where she met her future husband John F. Harvell in 1948 when a junior in high school. They were married six years later in 1954 upon his graduation from college and entry into the Air Force. As a service family they moved frequently until his assignment to Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts in 1971, when they bought a house in Merrimack. They have remained in Merrimack for the 40 years since.
Carol was a devoted wife and mother of four, making every house they occupied a home. She was active in the wives' club at most bases, and edited the wives' club newspaper on two different bases. In Newfoundland she hosted a radio program on the local Armed Forces Radio station. She was an avid bowler and instructed youth league bowling for a number of years. She was active in many activities at St. James United Methodist Church in Merrimack and particularly enjoyed singing in the choir.
She is survived by John, her husband of 57 years, and her four children; her daughter Kimberly D. (Harvell) Gscheidle of Cambridge Maryland, her son John K. Harvell of Indianapolis Indiana, her daughter R. Kelly Harvell of Bethlehem New Hampshire, and her son L. Scott Harvell of Brookline New Hampshire, as well as her three grandsons and three great grandchildren. She was much beloved and will be sorely missed.
Services: There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service for Carol will be held in St. James United Methodist Church, 646 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH Thursday at 11 AM. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Music Fund at St. James United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 895, Merrimack NH 03054.
