Nellie A. Granger, 97 of Merrimack, NH died Monday Dec. 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by family.

She was born in Nashua, NH on Jan. 19, 1921 a daughter of the late Cyprus and Antonia (Saulenas) Urban.

Growing up she had two historic natural disasters affect her childhood.  Her family lost their home in the Great Fire of 1930 in Nashua on Crown Hill.  Consequently, they moved to Haverhill, MA where the historic flooding of the Merrimack River in 1936 forced her family to return to Nashua.   Nellie graduated from Nashua High School in 1939. She married Guy Granger in 1946 and moved to Merrimack in 1951 with her husband, where they raised six children. Nellie was the Boston Post Cane recipient this past August for the town of Merrimack.

Nellie is a member of St. John Neumann church and the VFW Auxiliary Post #8641.

In addition to her husband, she is pre-deceased by a son Guy R. Granger Jr., a grandson Scott Granger, a granddaughter Julie Cabral and two brothers John and Stanley Urban.

Members of her family include two sons, Gary and his wife Lorna Granger of Hudson, NH; John Granger and his companion Terri Leduc of Manchester, NH; three daughters, Gayle Granger of Harrison, ME, Cynthia and her husband Francis Whaley of Merrimack, NH and Karen and her husband Ernest Cabral Jr. of Hudson, NH; thirteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Neumann Church, 708 Milford Road, Merrimack, NH Saturday Dec. 22, 2018 at 10 AM . Burial will follow in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack, NH. The Rivet Funeral Home in Merrimack is charge of arrangements.
